Merced County Spring Fair AKA May Day

April 30, 2015 No Comments

In our part of Merced County it is fair time!  We have always enjoyed our small town fair and we are proud supporters of the Merced County Spring Fair Heritage Foundation.

We feel our fair is unique, in that it did not start as a fair at all, but a picnic gathering by the late Henry Miller a pioneer and visionary in our area.  Henry Miller, of the Miller and Lux Company, was a cattleman, and the first to develop an organized irrigation system in our area.  It is said that he could drive cattle from Mexico to Oregon and rest and graze his cattle on his own land every night.

We are grateful for pioneers such as Henry Miller and celebrate his legacy at our small town fair.

The Merced County Spring Fair Heritage Foundation that we support was created out of necessity when the state pulled funding from fairs such as ours.  With the broad  support of business people and families in the area we have been able to keep our fair for future generations of 4-H and FFA kids to learn the responsibilities and hard work it takes to work in agriculture.

We’ll see you at the fair!
